## How it works

A transcription job can be created three ways:
1. **Upload a file** — audio or video, up to 500MB. Supported formats: MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV.
2. **Paste a URL** — supported platforms: YouTube, Vimeo, Zoom, Panopto, Google Drive, Microsoft Stream, Loom, Facebook, Twitter/X, TikTok.
3. **Record directly in the browser** — no separate app needed. Built-in recorder with pause/resume, a live microphone level meter, and instant playback preview before submitting. Recordings can run up to 3 hours.

Each job can be customized with:
- **Language** — English, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese available to everyone; Premium plans unlock 40+ languages.
- **Content type** — General, Academic Lecture, Medical, Legal, Business Meeting (tunes transcription for domain-specific vocabulary).
- **Quality preset** — Most Accurate (slower, 5-minute segments), Balanced (10-minute segments, optimal), Fastest (10-minute segments, quickest turnaround).
- **Custom terms** — user-supplied vocabulary (names, jargon, product names) to improve recognition accuracy.

Every transcript can generate AI study tools on top: summaries, notes, flashcards, and practice quiz questions. Transcripts export as plain text (.txt), Word (.docx), SRT subtitles (.srt), and WebVTT (.vtt).

Vocalo uses a simple credit system where 1 credit = 1 minute of transcription (~$0.025/minute, ~$1.50/hour). Plans are monthly or yearly subscriptions; yearly billing is discounted roughly 30% versus monthly.

- **Free — $0/month**: 5 hours (300 minutes) of transcription per month. Basic timestamped transcript, transcript export, AI flashcards & practice questions, video/audio URL support. No credit card required.
- **Pro — $15/month or $126/year**: 40 hours (2,400 minutes) per month. All Free features, plus AI-generated summaries/notes/flashcards, transcript export, no watermarks.
- **Premium — $25/month or $210/year**: 100 hours (6,000 minutes) per month. All Pro features, plus advanced AI flashcards & study questions, multi-language support (40+ languages), and priority support (24-hour response).
